Helpful Tips for Snow Removal

• If at all possible, stay off of the roads unless absolutely necessary.

• Do not follow closely behind a salt truck; allow approximately 100 feet between your car and the truck. It is very difficult for the driver to see vehicles following closely behind them - if you cannot see the mirrors on the front of the truck, then the driver cannot see you. Also, advise your children that it is very difficult for a driver to see them playing in or near the roadways while plowing and that our drivers may change direction at any time.

• Waiting 5 to 10 minutes after the road is salted allows the melting process to begin to work.

• When we are expecting more than two inches of snow, if at all possible, do not park on the streets. This will enable our plows to clear the streets, including the parking lanes, quickly and more efficiently. We have found in previous storms that cars left on the street may be inadvertently buried in many feet of snow.

• While we do everything in our power to keep driveways or mailboxes open when we are plowing, sometimes it is impossible, especially with large amounts of snow. A helpful tip for you may be to wait until after the plow has cleared your street before you shovel your driveway. This way you are only doing it once.

Do not shovel snow from your driveway into the street. This is illegal and can be very hazardous to motorists. Please put the snow back into the grass portion of the right-of-way.

While Delhi Township Public Works is working hard to clear snow from all Township maintained streets, Hamilton County is clearing the main arteries in Delhi, such as Delhi Pike, Anderson Ferry and Rapid Run. To view a listing of road designations in Delhi Township, click here.
