The Environmental Action Committee (EAC) of Mount St. Joseph University and the Oak Hills School District are hosting the event for the community.
Any item with an electronic cord will be accepted, including televisions, refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, cell phones, iPods, Blackberries, MP3 players, digital cameras, game systems, GPS units, e-readers, computers and related accessories (such as keyboards, printers, portable hard drives, and scanners), VCR/DVD/CD players, fax machines, copiers, microwaves, surge protectors, power cables and charging cords, electronic wiring, and satellite components. A $10 donation is requested for all cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions and monitors and a $20 donation is requested for all refrigerant-containing appliances.
RecycleForce, from Indianapolis, will de-manufacture the items and shred all hard-drives to address any privacy concerns. The plastics and metals are then collected, packaged, and sold to build new components, while all toxic elements, such as lead and mercury, will be disposed of properly to avoid environmental contamination. RecycleForce hires formerly incarcerated people and helps them rebuild their lives by providing transitional jobs and increasing their chance of sustained future employment.
If you have any questions, please call event coordinator Colleen McSwiggin at 513-244-4864.
